The Liberty Jr. High Eagles baseball team was forced to take a 7-0 forfeit loss to Payson Monday because of a coaching gaff involving the IESA pitch count rules. The Eagles' coaching staff inadvertently used a pitcher Monday that had not had the mandatory rest required after his performance the week prior. This mistake led to the forfeit loss by the Eagles. A mandatory two-game suspension of Head Coach, Darren Funk, another penalty associated with the pitch count rule violation, will also be served this week.
Despite those circumstances, a lot of positives came from the Eagles' performance on the field. Liberty had four players with multiple hits, led by Levi Hoener with four. Eight of the Eagles' eleven runs were driven in by seven different players. Devon Funk led the way with two RBI.
Aiden Koch, Jack Lentz, and Jacob Davis all saw time on the mound combing for seven K while allowing six earned runs in 5-1/3 innings. Jackson Sims threw an inning and a third, striking out four without giving up a hit.
LJHS is back in action Tuesday at Nauvoo-Colusa JH at 4:30pm.
